Introduction: Entering the World of Academic Writing
Academic writing has always felt like a challenging yet essential part of my postgraduate journey. When I first joined the National Workshop on Academic Writing (27 January – 1 February 2026) organized by the Department of English under the guidance of Dilip Barad, I expected to learn technical skills. However, what I gained was much more than that — a transformation in my confidence, perspective, and academic identity.
This blog reflects my personal learning outcomes, participation experience, and my contribution as a Food Committee Member, which added another meaningful dimension to this academic event.
My Key Learning Outcomes from the Workshop
1. Understanding the True Meaning of Academic Writing
Before this workshop, I believed academic writing was only about using complex vocabulary and formal language. But through the expert sessions, I realized:
Academic writing is about clarity, honesty, and logical argument
A clear sentence requires thinking, revision, and patience
Writing is not a one-time act but a continuous process of refinement
This realization reduced my fear of writing and encouraged me to practice regularly.
2. Awareness of AI Tools and Academic Integrity
One of the most relevant sessions focused on:
Detecting AI hallucinations
Using AI responsibly
Maintaining academic ethics
As a literature student, this was extremely important because today AI is everywhere. I learned that AI should assist thinking, not replace it.
This session made me more conscious and responsible as a future researcher.
3. Learning About Research Publishing and Academic Career
Another major takeaway was understanding:
How research papers are published
Importance of indexed journals
Career opportunities in English studies
Before this workshop, publishing seemed like a distant dream. Now, it feels like an achievable goal.
